POOL ACTIVATED CARBONS

Either granulated or extruded, CarboTech pool activated carbons are the result of reactivation. Their adsorption properties often surpass those of fresh activated carbons and therefore feature impressive adsorption properties. As such, they are not only predestined for wastewater treatment but also for numerous mobile adsorption applications in the liquid and gas phase.

Spent activated carbons pass through our unique fluidized-bed reactivation process in our reactivation plants in Essen, Germany. Organic compounds are desorbed and thermally converted.

IMPREGNATED ACTIVATED CARBONS

Through a suitable impregnation, the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon can be increased considerably – for economic collection of several hard to adsorb gas pollutants such as hydrogen sulphide, mercury or ammonia.

The pollutants are then no longer collected solely via adsorption but additionally via chemisorption.

Typical impregnation chemicals are sulphur (for the removal of mercury), potassium iodide (H2S, AsH3, radioactive isotopes), potassium carbonate (HCl, HF, SO2) and silver (for drinking water treatment).

Carboncatalysts

CarboTech CarbonCatalysts are extruded activated carbons with high-performance catalytic properties, and manufactured in our optimally controlled multi-stage fluidized-bed reactor. The pore system and surface chemistry is modified via a partial gasification with steam and carbon dioxide to create catalysts with impressive catalytic activity.

Typical area of application for the DeNOx CarbonCatalysts is the denitrification of flue gas from glass melting furnaces, waste incineration plants, power plants, etc. For this purpose, the Carbon-Selective Catalytic

Reduction (C-SCR) technology was developed. Characteristic parameters of this technology are:

As the CarbonCatalysts feature excellent catalytic properties and due to the high mechanical stability, an operational life over several years is possible. Low pressure drops is an other economical character of these CarbonCatalysts.

CarbonCatalysts can also be used for the removal of NOx from exhaust gas occuring in:

  • Rotating kilns in cement manufacturing
  • Traffic tunnels
  • Systems for thermal soil remediation
  • Other high temperature processes emitting flue gas
  • The denitrification of flue gases after classical wet scrubber is also possible

Modified CarbonCatalysts are suitable for odour removal and furthermore, numerous applications in the liquid phase are also available (e.g. dechlorination, H2O2 decomposition).

Honeycombs

For the purification of industrial exhaust air, CarboTech AC provides activated carbon honeycombs, complete filter cassettes and pilot plants on a honeycomb basis.

CarboTech honeycombs consist of ceramic-reinforced activated carbon. The basic structure features a large number of parallel channels of uniform diameter, allowing well-defined flows at low pressure drops. CarboTech honeycombs are ideal if excellent kinetic properties, precise adsorption and reaction conditions as well as low-noise, energy-efficient operation are needed. The honeycombs also exhibit excellent mechanical hardness as well as high shock resistance. They are also non-flammable due to their ceramic bodies.

CarboTech honeycombs are available both in cylindrical and quadratic forms and can be assembled to larger units or used in standard filter cassettes to achieve nearly any technically relevant geometries. Base-activated carbons are selected from the CarboTech product range according to the specific task.
