Carbon molecular sieves (CMS)
Innovation made in Essen
CarboTech is known and appreciated across the world as one of the key innovation drivers in the world of activated carbon. One thing to come out of our research and development work has been carbon molecular sieve (CMS) technology which is used in nitrogen production and other applications.
This is because in order to obtain high-purity nitrogen, manufacturers rely on so-called pressure swing adsorption (PSA). In this process, compressed air is alternately fed to two vessels filled with CMS. In the tanks, the CMS captures the oxygen molecules. The remaining high-purity nitrogen is then fed into downstream collection tanks and finally directly into the customer’s network.
In addition to nitrogen generation, CMS are also used in the following applications:
- Biogas upgrading
- Noble gas recovery
Research and further development
Currently, we sell products of our partner OSAKA Gas Chemicals on an exclusive basis in Europe, India and the Middle East. Due to the exceptional hardness of these CMS, short pressure equalization times and high pressure build-up or depressurization rates are possible. Excellent self-regeneration properties also allow reliable nitrogen generation for many years.
And as if that were not enough (and it’s not!), we are constantly refining the sieves in collaboration with a university of applied sciences. Here, we benefit from our decades of experience in terms of possible applications, adaptation and design of the product, as well as the intensive exchange with our customers. This is because we know exactly what the market requires and can provide tailor-made solutions. Optimized processes and thorough quality control enable us to supply highly efficient CMS that offer excellent cost-effectiveness.
