Keyword-SearchEssen, 08.01.2025 – The 2024 financial year presented us with massive challenges. The ongoing political tension worldwide created a difficult environment for our targeted sales growth. Nevertheless, the year ends with us once again achieving sales of over 40 million euros.
We owe this success not only to structural changes and high investments in our production site, but also to the active commitment and dedication of the entire CarboTech team under the more difficult conditions.
While in 2023 the focus was on expanding and modernising our production infrastructure, last year saw the start of the conversion and energy-efficient renovation of our administration building.
At the same time, CarboTech benefited from important foundations laid in previous years that guaranteed a successful start to the new year.
Another important step for the further development of CarboTech was the expansion of the management team in the second half of 2024. Since October 1st, Sascha Vornweg has been joining the management team in his role as Commercial Director, and Daniel Mandau in his role as Service Director. This strong and diverse management team is continuing on the path towards more growth and modernisation, which is enabling CarboTech to position itself for the future in important areas and to remain competitive at all times.
Sales and service
In 2024, the adoption of the municipal wastewater directive at EU level (KARL) and the tightening of limit values in the Drinking Water Ordinance has led to an increased demand for high-quality activated carbon solutions that can reliably remove complex impurities in drinking water treatment and the 4th treatment stage – while maintaining high adsorption performance.
Operators of sewage treatment plants are confronted with a massive increase in the amount of micro-pollutants, medicines and pesticides in drinking water, of which only up to 70% can be removed without an additional 4th treatment stage – this result is not sufficient to comply with legal limits.
In view of this, the successful award of the drinking water tender by RWW, after winning the IWB, was a clear signal of the convincing performance of CarboTech products and the comprehensive services in water management applications.
Due to the high demand for our 360° service in the areas of consulting, grinding, replacement service and logistics services, we have expanded our service fleet with additional silo vehicles and personnel, developed comprehensive consulting service packages and added grinding to our solution portfolio.
Expansion and modernisation of our production facilities
Investing in our own ball mill, a dryer and a silo loading system enables us to operate more independently and flexibly on the market. At the same time, we are increasing the planning capability and efficiency of our production site, so that we can process customer orders at a higher speed/frequency. To ensure that the potential created in production can also be utilised, we have simultaneously increased staffing levels in production and logistics. We are therefore ideally equipped for further sales growth.
Renewal and continuation of all certifications
All certifications acquired to date were maintained in 2024, so that CarboTech can continue to ensure certified quality at the highest level and legal compliance in the areas of occupational safety, environmental protection and energy in accordance with the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act in 2025.
The following certifications were renewed:
ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ecovadis, Kosher and Halal. The certification for sustainable action was added in 2024. This certification underlines the path of CarboTech towards sustainable economic activity, thinking and action, to which we have been committed for years as part of our sustainability management.
Further certifications will follow this year. You can find all the certificates here: More on
Research & development, application technology
In 2024, CarboTech was able to benefit extensively from the expertise of the R&D department set up in 2023. This enabled valuable research to be carried out into sustainable products made from renewable raw materials, as well as in the field of carbon molecular sieves.
We are constantly sourcing new raw materials for our R&D projects through our worldwide network in order to be able to draw on a wide range of renewable resources in the interests of sustainability.
In November 2024, the CarboTech GAK conference took place at our company for the first time. The guest list included a wide range of specialist audiences who are facing particular challenges as a result of the adoption of KARL (municipal wastewater directive at EU level) and the associated expansion plan for the 4th treatment stage.
During the event, which lasted several hours, the invited guests were able to immerse themselves in the world of activated carbon and exchange ideas with our experts from R&D and sales, as well as with our CarboTech experts on activated carbon products, services, production possibilities or sustainability, tailored to their industry.
Thanks to all these developments in all areas, we can look ahead positively to the new year and would be delighted to continue to support our customers in their projects this year and in 2024.
