Essen, 18.09.23 – Once again, the full-service provider CarboTech was able to convince across the board with its comprehensive range of services and strong product portfolio in a Europe-wide tender and secure a new major contract.
IWB (Industrielle Werke Basel), the leading provider in the field of water supply and climate-friendly energy in Switzerland, supplies the canton of Basel-Stadt, as well as surrounding communities, with drinking water via the drinking water plants Lange Erlen (IWB) and Hard of Hardwasser AG.
By winning the tender, CarboTech will supply a total of approx. 960 tons of activated carbon (fresh carbon & reactivated carbon) over a period of 3 years for the filtration of the groundwater.

However, IWB was not only looking for particularly high-performance, high-quality activated carbon with excellent storage availability suitable for this sensitive application, but also for a strong partner professionally positioned in transport and storage logistics in order to be able to serve requests for fresh carbon or reactivated carbon quickly and flexibly.
Here, CarboTech’s consistent investment strategy in the site, for example in technical expansion, personnel and the company’s own fleet of vehicles, enabled it to offer a comprehensive package that can handle the complete process chain from a single source.

Reactivation instead of disposal

In addition to these aspects, CarboTech was also able to convince the customer with environmental aspects through the reactivation of loaded activated carbons, as well as their return to the circular economy in the sense of sustainability. This is because CarboTech recognized early on that sustainable management, thinking and acting to preserve natural resources and environmentally friendly, efficient production processes using state-of-the-art production facilities are important building blocks for the future.
“Winning the contract is a nice confirmation for the team, as we have massively developed and invested in many areas and can thus clearly see that positioning ourselves as a full-service provider in the field of activated carbon is the right step towards the future for CarboTech.
The requirements in the field of water treatment are high and our activated carbon certified for drinking water applications according to DIN EN 12915 and DIN EN 12903 for our granular and powdered activated carbon is ideally suited for use in this sensitive environment,” explains Managing Director Daniel Böke. The fluidized bed process used by the Essen-based activated carbon manufacturer, which is unique worldwide, ensures a high longevity and large loading capacity of the CarboTech products, he adds: “Our production method ensures a larger internal surface area for our activated carbon than for comparable products, making it extraordinarily effective and profitable.” The managing director continues.
