Review of the year 2023 CarboTech Group

Essen, 24.01.24 – Like all other market players, 2023 presented us with major challenges due to the energy price crisis and the economic slump. Despite this, we consistently pursued our internal change process throughout the year, enabling us to further expand the positive trend and drive forward the perception of the company in the market.

This situation has already given us the opportunity in 2023 to make intensive preparations for 2024 in terms of structure and personnel. Overall, we were once again able to lay many important foundations for a successful start to the new year. As a result, CarboTech is ideally prepared this year to achieve its sales target of over EUR 43 million in annual sales (2023: EUR 40.3 million in annual sales).

Sales and service

Last year, customer growth in the area of the 4th purification stage led to the successful addition of several alternative products to the CarboTech portfolio. The main reason for the need for a 4th purification stage is the challenge for operators of sewage treatment plants to remove the increased quantities of micropollutants, medicines and pesticides from drinking water, which is only possible up to 70% without a further purification process.

One milestone was the successful award of the IWB drinking water tender in Basel. CarboTech prevailed against all the top dogs in the activated carbon industry. The quality of our product, the comprehensive 360° service package and the ability to reactivate and return the activated carbon to the circular economy in the interests of sustainability were decisive factors in winning the tender.

We have also positioned ourselves on the market as a full-service provider, enabling us to offer our customers a 360° all-round carefree service. Thanks to the high demand, we were able to expand our service fleet with additional silo vehicles, including a state-of-the-art multi-chamber vehicle for gas and water phase, which enables loaded activated carbon to be exchanged for fresh carbon in a single appointment.

Expansion and modernisation of our production facility

The modernisation of existing production facilities and the expansion of new parts of the plant enable us to operate more flexibly on the market and serve customer enquiries more effectively. We have also been able to significantly increase the turnover of products and reactive agents, allowing us to process customer material and special campaigns more flexibly and improving our planning and efficiency.

Expansion of the CarboTech compliance management system

We launched this project in 2022 and implemented it in 2023 so that we can ensure legal certainty in the areas of occupational health and safety, environmental protection and energy in accordance with the Supply Chain Compliance Act. You can find the certificate here: More

Research, development, application technology

By setting up its own research & development department in 2023, CarboTech will be able to focus intensively on the topic of sustainable products made from renewable raw materials such as waste products from forestry and the food industry in 2024. We are constantly sourcing new raw materials through our global network in order to be able to draw on a wide range of renewable resources. In addition, we have also gained a lot of expertise in application technology over the past year with new colleagues joining the team, who are taking the department to a whole new level as part of the complete restructuring of application technology.

Digitalisation of processes

Whether in the HR department, administration, sales or logistics: we have become more and more digital in 2023 and have simplified many processes as a result. The gradual introduction of Industry 4.0 has also brought departments closer together, linked processes and driven forward the digitalisation of production processes. This not only makes work more efficient, but also strengthens us as a team, as many new interfaces have been created across departments.

Thanks to all these positive changes, we can look forward to the new year with optimism and look forward to continuing to support our customers with their projects in 2024.
